Here is another idea for the block area “soft rocks”.
We can pretend the smaller blocks are rocks and build with them but how about building with real looking rocks? wouldn’t that be awesome plus they are soft and safe, the little ones can actually throw them at each other and it won’t hurt at all!
Here is what you need:
- Grey socks (different shades of grey would be better)
- Scissors
- Thread and needle
- dry rice
I ended up buying grey socks in order to make the rocks, I went to Amazon and found a 5 pack with nice colors for $15.00. You can probably get others cheaper or get used ones. For this project I only choose the dark and light grey socks.
With a black sharpie I drew the shapes of the rocks I wanted in order to utilize majority of the sock, don’t forget to turn the sock inside out before you draw and sew it!
I sewed the rocks leaving a small opening, not too small though remember we have to fill these rocks with rice. I had my daughter helping me fill the rock, she did a great job. Giving her a big bowl helped a lot, I did try using a funnel but the rice gets stuck.
Once finished I introduced them as soft rocks. I showed the children how they can stack them up, build with them or have the truck carrying them around.
